Eye exercises can help reduce eye strain, improve focus, and promote overall eye health.
Here are a few simple exercises that optometrists can teach their patients:
The 20-20-20 Rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds to reduce eye strain, especially during long periods of screen time.
Palming: Rub your hands together to warm them, then place them gently over your closed eyes. This can help relax your eyes and reduce tension.
Focus Shifting: Hold your finger in front of you and focus on it for a few seconds. Then, shift your focus to an object further away and back again. This helps improve your eye's focusing ability.
Figure 8 Exercise: Imagine a large figure 8 in front of you and trace it with your eyes, slowly. This exercise improves flexibility in the eye muscles.
Encourage your patients to perform these exercises regularly, especially if they spend long hours in front of screens.
